Call of Beauty

This is the Trumpiest thing ever: from a Washington Post article out today, Donald Trump is holding a government casting call. He’s seeking ‘the look’:

Donald Trump believes that those who aspire to the most visible spots in his administration should not just be able to do the job, but also look the part.

Given Trump’s own background as a master brander and showman who ran beauty pageants as a sideline, it was probably inevitable that he would be looking beyond their résumés for a certain aesthetic in his supporting players . . .

Trump’s closest aides have come to accept that he is likely to rule out candidates if they are not attractive or not do not match his image of the type of person who should hold a certain job . . .

Several of Trump’s associates said they thought that John R. Bolton’s brush-like mustache was one of the factors that handicapped the bombastic former United Nations ambassador in the sweepstakes for secretary of state.

And this part of the article is my favorite, but it’s also pretty frightening:

People close to Trump said he has been eager to appoint a telegenic woman as press secretary or in some other public-facing role in his White House — both because he thinks it would attract viewers and would help inoculate him from the charges of sexism that trailed his presidential campaign.

Attract viewers?? It has definitely seemed throughout both the presidential campaign & the transition as if Trump thinks he’s putting on a show.  But to have it put in such stark terms – that he’s actually concerned about his viewership – that kinda makes it sound like he truly can’t tell the difference between reality and reality tv.  And that’s really freakin’ scary.

That’s beyond shameful, even for him. But, no surprise at all since his entire candidacy and now as president elect he is seemingly running a reality show in his fantasy world. Wake up Trumpelthinskin, these are real lives you’re dealing with, not a game show!

Since the public is fascinated with the likes of Kim kadasian etc maybe Trump can actually get our public interested in our government
Could be a good thing eventually
    Who knows?
    Otherwise it is scary

That’s a good point! That did seem to happen during the election, with the huge debate audiences, etc. Hopefully people will be paying attention to the substance though, and not just the spectacle of it all. Trump seems to be aiming for the latter
