Just a quick update on this Swamp Things post from 12/21. Donald Trump apparently was not happy about Newt Gingrich’s claim that he was no longer draining the swamp. So Trump sent out a tweet to correct him:
Newt Gingrich sent out his own tweet a few minutes later, apologizing for the “boo-boo.” With that and the accompanying video, he made sure to let us know that Trump just looooves draining the swamp. From the video: “I talked this morning with President-elect Donald Trump, and he reminded me that he likes draining the swamp. I mischaracterized it the other day. He intends to drain the swamp.”
There is actually a phrase to describe the situation Gingrich just found himself in. It’s called a Kinsley gaffe when a politician inadvertently reveals the truth – obviously a truth they didn’t intend to admit, or that they wish they hadn’t in hindsight. Newt just committed a classic one, and now he’s trying to clean it up. At least something is getting a cleaning today, because the D.C. swamp sure won’t be.
